Germany will hand over Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle to Ukraine

The government of Germany included the Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle in the list of its assistance to Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are to receive three German recovery vehicles.

For security reasons, Germany refrains from providing additional information, particularly about the methods and timing of delivery, until the transfer occurs.

Also, the Ukrainian servicemen should undergo training in Germany to use these vehicles.

The German Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle belongs to the group of combat support vehicles.

This armored recovery vehicle is developed on the basis of a Leopard 1 tank.

It can fulfill the following tasks: ensuring the mobility of armored troops, restoring vehicles damaged in battle, providing assistance in the installation and dismantling of engines and turrets, and providing support in the repair shop.

The vehicle is used by the army rear units and armored infantry battalions and by the armies of other countries that have Leopard tanks at their disposal.

The crew consists of four soldiers: a driver, a commander, a machine gunner, and a radio operator.

The Bergepanzer 2 hull consists of welded armor steel and has a single layer of armor. The level of protection of the chassis is the same as in Leopard 1 tank.

The armament of the Bergepanzer 2 is primarily intended for self-defense and consists of a machine gun and smoke cannons.

The recovery vehicle has a crane, support equipment, and repair equipment. A spare engine can be placed aft as part of field repairs.
