In Makiyivka, the Russians pretended to surrender and opened fire

In the Luhansk region, a Russian unit pretended to surrender yet subsequently opened fire against Ukrainian soldiers.

Dmytro Lubinets, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, reported that the Russians thereby committed a war crime.

During the incident, the Russian unit was neutralized.

“A false surrender is a war crime. It can be concluded that by using the staged capture, the Russians committed this war crime — they opened fire against the Armed Forces of Ukraine military,” shared the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He noted that in this case, persons from among Russian military personnel cannot be considered prisoners of war, but rather those who fight and commit treason.

“Retaliatory fire is not a war crime. On the contrary, those who want to use the protection of international law for committing murder should be punished,” the Ombudsman said.

According to him, the only reason for the death of Russian servicemen on the territory of Ukraine is the criminal policy of the Russian Federation.

According to him, it is not surprising that such “releases” of accusations are taking place amid the liberation of Kherson and the exposure of thousands of new facts of the Kremlin’s war crimes.

“It will not be possible to distract attention. Killers remain killers, and war criminals await the tribunal,” Lubinets said.

The incident in Makiyivka

On November 14, a video featuring a neutralized group of Russian soldiers, whose bodies were lying not far from each other, was published on the page of the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

On November 18, a new video was released on social media. It unveils the events prior to the elimination of these Russian soldiers from the Ukrainian side.

The Ukrainian military were carrying out the procedure of capturing Russian soldiers in the village.

During the procedure, the Russian military did not warn the Ukrainian servicemen that there was a Russian soldier behind the house who had not laid down his weapon.

An armed Russian soldier was the first to open fire unexpectedly for the Ukrainian military.

Such actions were regarded as a simulation of surrender. For the safety of other Ukrainian soldiers, without waiting for a new attack from the Russian side, the fire was opened in return, and the Russian unit was eliminated.

The video footage features that one of the Ukrainian soldiers was seriously injured.

The incident happened in the Luhansk region in settlement of Makiyivka, probably during the completion of the liberation of the village.

On November 13, the Head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration officially announced the restoration of control over the village of Makiyivka.

On November 16, the Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the liberation.

The military shared that during the retreat from the village, the Russian invaders suffered significant losses.
