In Russia, a missile of the air defence forces falls on residential buildings
A powerful explosion has shaken the city of Kireyevsk, Tula region of Russia.
Local residents report a 5-meter-deep crater and casualties.
The explosion occurred at approximately 15:15 in Kireyevsk (a city 35 km from Tula).
According to local residents, the explosion was heard throughout the town: the walls and windows vibrated, and the sound of the explosion echoed even 30 km from the city.
Afterwards, the residents discovered a crater in the residential area. The buildings were damaged as well, many residents had their windows blown out.
Initially, two victims were reported: a man and a woman, who were cut by shards of glass.
It is currently reported that the number of injured as a result of the explosion in Kireevsk has increased to three people.
Wreckage was found at the site of the crater, resembling a part of an anti-aircraft missile, likely from the S-300 system.
For comparison, similar wreckage from missiles was displayed in 2018 in Syria, when air defense systems were operating in the area of the city of Latakia.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia has also confirmed that S-300 and Pantsir-S1 SAM systems were deployed in the Tula region.
However, according to the official statement it was not a missile that allegedly fell in the city of Kireevsk, but a Ukrainian Tu-141 Strizh drone, which was allegedly jammed by an electronic warfare.
“The Pole-21 jamming system neutralized the Ukrainian attack drone, as a result of which its navigation system was disabled,” the ministry’s statement says.
