In the battles for Lysychansk, the T-34-85 tank from a pedestal was used

During the battles for the Ukrainian city of Lysychansk, a T-34-85 tank from a pedestal was used.

The Soviet monument was installed on one of the city’s streets.

The tank was likely used by the Ukrainian forces to block a section of the road.

During the battles for the city, the tank was not visibly damaged.

This tank with number № 227 was installed on a pedestal in Lysychansk in 1971.

To the right of it, there is a stele with carved names of units and formations that defended and liberated Lysychansk during the World War ІІ. The pedestal and stele are cladded with granite.

The legend says that the tank was raised from the bottom of the Siverskyi Donets river in the Loskutivka area and was filled with silt inside. However, the tank was probably handed over to the city after the disbandment of one of the military units.

In November 2015, unknown persons repainted the tank in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Already in December, the colors of the Ukrainian flag were painted over by the local authorities.

On July 24, 2016, unknown persons repainted the Lysychansk monument in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. On July 25, the city authorities took measures to restore the monument to its original form.

On July 3, 2022, it was reported that the Ukrainian servicemen had left Lysychansk, Luhansk region.

The T-34-85 tank is a Soviet medium tank of the period of the German-Soviet war. It was adopted to service by the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in 1944. The T-34-85 tank was being produced in the USSR from January 1944 to 1950, before the mass production of the T-54 began.

As previously reported, Ukrainian forces also used armored vehicles from pedestals during the defense of the city of Mariupol.
