Iran calls on Ukraine to “cease support for opposition forces in Syria”
Iran, through a representative of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called on Ukraine to “stop supporting opposition forces in Syria”.
This was reported by Mehr News.
The representative is Mojtaba Damirchilou, Assistant Foreign Minister of Iran and Director General of the Eurasia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his statement, he referred to reports of “illegal trade in weapons received from the United States by some Ukrainian officials and Ukraine’s support for a list of terrorist groups in Syria.”
He called these actions a gross violation of international obligations to prevent and combat terrorism and called for their immediate cessation.
He also accused Ukraine of “supporting terrorism” and using such groups to destabilize the West Asian region through such unethical policies.
The Iranian diplomat argued that “experience shows that alliances with terrorism only lead to increased instability and violence in the world, and sooner or later it will affect those who support it.”
At the same time, in his speech he once again reiterated Iranian propaganda that Iran is not involved in the conflict in Ukraine.
That is, he omitted the fact that Russia has been using Iranian Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 drones to strike at the territory of Ukraine, which the Russian aggressor has been using since the fall of 2022. But now they have begun to be localized under the label “Geranium-1” and “Geranium-2”.
In January 2024, an Iranian Shahed-238 jet-powered attack drone used by the Russian invaders was shot down in the skies of Ukraine. Moreover, it was officially unveiled only in the fall of 2023, meaning that relations between the countries in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles are very close.
On September 23, 2022, Ukrainian air defense shot down the first Iranian reconnaissance and strike drone of the Mohajer-6 aircraft type.
Iran is also a supplier of other weapons that Russians are actively using against Ukraine. To date, it has been reported that artillery and tank shells, small arms ammunition, and ammunition have been supplied.
You can read more about this and more in the article: “Russia’s ‘Independent’ War Against Ukraine: Who and What Supplies It to Kill Ukrainians”, which describes the nomenclature of arms supplies from different countries to Russia.
On November 27, the Syrian opposition launched an offensive against Assad’s regime forces, which are supported by Iran and Russia.
In just three days, the rebels liberated Aleppo, and in a couple more days they reached the 2018 front line in the south. The Syrian armed opposition has already completely liberated the province of Idlib, and the Assad regime has begun to crumble throughout Syria.
That is, the statements of the Iranian side are nothing more than a search for the extreme in the failures of its ally, because Assad’s other partner, Russia, is hastily fleeing the country and has already withdrawn its warships from the port of Tartus.
