M109 self-propelled gun hits the Russian 2S4 Tyulpan

Western-type artillery of the Ukrainian military has accurately hit the Russian 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled heavy mortar.

A M109 self-propelled howitzer has recently struck the position of the Russian 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled heavy mortar.

Combat mission was carried out by an ACS, which belongs to the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians.

The Brigade’s M109 ACS is usually used against the manpower of the Russians, but the scouts managed to detect a position of the 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm mortar.

“Today we worked against infantry, some targets were hit, and recently we have destroyed a 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled mortar, as we found out where they were based with a truck and ammunition, but mostly we work against infantry,” said the M109 crewmembers.

The comment of the gunners confirms the video recently published by a volunteer Pavlo Narozhny, in which the 2S4 Tyulpan of Russians and a truck next to it were hit.

Artillery fire was adjusted by means of a reconnaissance unmanned vehicle. Presumably, the Russian heavy mortar suffered significant damage.

The Russians operated this 2S4 self-propelled mortar against the defenders of the city of Marinka and placed it on the outskirts of Donetsk on Petrovsky Street.

The M109 A3GN are in service with the 72nd Mechanized Brigade. The Norwegian version of the self-propelled howitzers is a German modernization of the American M109A3, armed with a new 39 calibers length barrel, which allows firing at a longer range.

The crew quickly mastered the ACS after Soviet-era artillery samples.

“It is better in terms of artillery weapons, the caliber is bigger, it has a bigger range of ammunition, and there is cluster munition, remote mining, high-explosive fragmentation,” the gunners say.

It should be recalled that in June last year it became known that Ukraine had received 22 M109A3GN tracked self-propelled howitzers of 155mm caliber from Norway.
