MBDA presented AKERON fifth-generation tactical combat missiles

MBDA presented AKERON tactical guided missiles, a unique family of fifth-generation combat missiles.

This is stated in the press release of MBDA.

This family includes MMP and MHT missiles, which were renamed to AKERON MP and AKERON LP respectively.

Modern combat units operate in various difficult conditions. It can be urban areas, open terrain, deserts or mountains, day or night.

In order to be able to respond to a wide range of threats in modern combat operations, the military must be equipped with versatile and accurate means to destroy stationary or mobile ground targets, including tanks and light combat vehicles of the last generation, as well as neutralize manpower of opponents or defensive positions.

Anti-tank system operators must also be protected during combat with the ability to “fire-and-forget” or hit a target while remaining hidden from the enemy.

Developed for these operational reality missiles from the MBDA include these necessary capabilities.

New missiles are called “tactical” because they are intended for a wide range of operations, not just against armored targets like anti-tank missiles.

AKERON LP

According to the MBDA, the long-range missile AKERON LP is effective against armored vehicles, infantry and enemy fortifications.

The missile is more designed to be integrated into aviation platforms like helicopters. The rocket has a weight of 30-40 kilograms and a size of 1.8 meters in a special container.

The AKERON LP has a three-mode homing head with a high-resolution television IR image.

It is stated that the missile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 8 to 20 kilometers.

AKERON MP

The AKERON MP is the world’s only fifth-generation missile, which is in service and was tested in combat conditions.

It has a weight of 15 kilograms and a size of 1.3 meters in a container with a diameter of 140 mm.

The manufacturer stated that the missile has an effective range of more than 4 kilometers with the function of “fire-and-forget” when the operator does not need to direct the missile after launch.

The AKERON MP tactical missiles are more suitable for ground and sea platforms.
