Moldovan authorities have denied Ukraine the sale of the Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets.

Militarnyi reports about this with reference to European Pravda.

Back in 2010, official Chisinau put six aircrafts up for sale. It was declared that they were all in good working condition. The fighter jets are based in Markuleshti in the North of the country.

However, after 12 years, there were no buyers.

In the first days of the war, Kyiv made a proposal that they would be handed over or sold to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the Moldovan authorities got afraid of Russia’s potential response and refused to help Ukraine.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Moldovan Air Force received over 30 MiG-29s from the 86th Fighter Regiment of the USSR Black Sea Fleet.

One plane was shot down during the Transnistrian war. Another one was handed over to Romania.

Four planes were sold to Yemen and another 21 to the United States.

We have previously reported that Ukraine is interested in quickly replenishing the Air Force with the help of countries that own MiG-29s. Relevant negotiations were conducted with Poland and are ongoing with Slovakia.
