Northrop Grumman to produce medium-caliber ammunition in Ukraine
Ukrainian Defense Industry and the US company Northrop Grumman sign an agreement to establish a new medium-caliber ammunition production facility in Ukraine.
The news was published on the website of the President of Ukraine.
At the Embassy of Ukraine to the United States, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with top executives of leading American defense companies and signed an agreement with Northrop representatives to deploy ammunition production in Ukraine.
According to the signed contract, Northrop is to start producing medium-caliber ammunition.
Details of the deal were not disclosed, but the American company produces almost the entire range of ammunition in this range, including 25×137, 30×113, 30×173, and 35×228 rounds, which are in demand by the Ukrainian army.
Northrop Grumman is one of the world’s largest weapons manufacturers, offering modern solutions in the field of armor-piercing ammunition and programmable ammunition.
For the first time, plans to produce ammunition in Ukraine by the US Northrop Grumman Defense Systems were announced in June at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris.
“That’s our first project that’s paid for with Ukrainian dollars. We are looking to expand that into tank ammo, 155-mm, and others as we find innovative processes,” Dave Bartell, director of international business for Northrop’s defense systems sector, shared.
In addition to setting up a new plant in the country, Northrop has also been fulfilling a half-billion-dollar contract to supply artillery ammunition to Ukraine since the end of last year.
Meeting with representatives of the US defense industry
The signing of the contract with Northrop took place during a wider event, which was joined by representatives of BAE Systems, Day & Zimmermann, Boeing, Sierra Nevada Company, Northrop Grumman, RTX, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, D&M Holding, AeroVironment and Amentum.
The Ukrainian delegation, which included, among others, the head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, discussed the prospects for joint defense production, primarily ammunition, air defense systems, guns, armored vehicles and drones, and the repair and maintenance of military equipment.
As previously reported, JSC Ukroboronprom opened its first foreign representative office to coordinate international projects in the United States.
The main task of the office is to facilitate the implementation of joint Ukrainian-American defense projects, for interacting with local businesses and government agencies and for negotiating the transfer of military technologies.
