One of the largest oil refineries in Siberia is on fire in Russia

In Russia, a large-scale fire broke out at night on the territory of an oil plant in the city of Angarsk, Irkutsk region.

Igor Kobzev, the governor of the region, reported this.

As a result of the incident, 2 people died, and another 5 were injured.

The fire broke out at the industrial site of the Angar Petrochemical Company.

“A serious fire was reported at the technological installation of the industrial site of the Angarsk Petrochemical Company in Angarsk. Unfortunately, two employees died as a result of the explosion and subsequent fire on the territory of the Angarsk Petrochemical Company.” the governor stated.

According to him, 5 people were injured, and one person was hospitalized in a moderate condition.

It should be noted that the Angar Petrochemical Company, which is part of the Rosneft structure, is the largest enterprise in Eastern Siberia engaged in the production of petroleum products and petrochemicals.

The fire was reported at 6 a.m. local time.

The area of the fire occupied about 2,500 square meters. More than 100 people and 25 units of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.

Residents of Angarsk and even Irkutsk, located almost 40 kilometers away, reported that the beginning of the fire at the enterprise was accompanied by a loud explosion. Eyewitnesses claim that the vibration was so strong that some mistook it for an earthquake.

As of now, it has been reported that the fire has already been contained. According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the preliminary cause of the incident was overgassing of the systems of the oil refinery’s technological installation.

As previously reported, on November 30, an oil storage tank was on fire in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. The fire occurred in the Surazh district of the region. The area on fire was 1,800 square meters. Over 80 fire and rescue teams were working on the spot. The airmobile group of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Bryansk region was sent to help them.
