Poland and Britain to develop tank destroyer for using Brimstone anti-tank guided missiles

Nine companies of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) have concluded an agreement with MBDA UK regarding development of the tank destroyer equipped with Brimstone missiles.

This is stated in a press release from MBDA.

The agreement will enable development and production of wheeled or tracked vehicles to be used with MBDA UK Brimstone anti-tank guided missiles.

This is a follow up of the agreement concluded in 2019 regarding the cooperation between PGZ and UK partners.

“In difficult times it is good to have partners you can rely on. We are strengthening our cooperation with the UK defence industry, with MBDA UK being a leading representative of. Today’s agreement is another step towards establishing production of the latest generation Brimstone missiles in the country. As a result of the Polish-British cooperation, a joint offer will be made to the Polish Armed Forces and allied forces, and our companies will also be a part of supply chains,” Sebastian Chwałek, CEO of PGZ S.A. said.

The agreement is the basis for further cooperation on both Polish and foreign markets in the area of integration of the ATGMs with the elements of the tank destroyer squadron module indicated by the ordering party and the production of the Brimstone missile at PGZ facilities.

By deepening our cooperation around Brimstone we will jointly support the development of Poland’s military and industrial capabilities and enhance the strategic ambition of our companies,” Chris Allam, Managing Director of MBDA UK said.

The Polish army has launched a program to acquire new tank destroyers based on armored personnel carriers to strengthen its anti-tank capabilities.

Besides, the purpose of this program is to replace obsolete combat vehicles, which used the old anti-tank missile system 9P133 Malutka Soviet-era with wire guidance.

The following companies have concluded the agreement: WZM S.A., WZU S.A., OBRUM sp. z o.o., Jelcz sp. z o.o., Rosomak S.A. as well as representatives of the PGZ-OTTOKAR consortium: PGZ S.A. (leader of the consortium), HSW S.A., MESKO S.A. and WZE S.A.

The Brimstone missile was developed by the international consortium MBDA UK for the British Armed Forces.

It is equipped with an active radar homing head, which allows it to hit moving targets with great accuracy.
