Poland will handing over the modern Piorun man-portable air defense system to Ukraine.

Militarnyi informs.

Minister of Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak Twitter announced that the relevant resolution was adopted by the Council of Ministers.

“Good news. At my request, the Council of Ministers adopted a resolution on assistance to Ukraine. We will provide the most modern Polish equipment – Piorun man-portable air defense systems and ammunition,” Blaszczak said.

Perun MANPADS is a deep modernization of Polish Grom missile system, which is produced by Mesko. During the upgrade, the sensitivity of the infrared homing device was quadrupled.

The man-portable air defense system has a warhead of 1.82 kg and it is known to be able to hit targets at an altitude of up to 4000 m and a range of up to 6500 m.

Perun can strike small credible targets, such as UAVs, due to contactless undermining.

Earlier, the Polish Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the supply of 420 MANPADs to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.

The MANPADS began to be enlisted in the Polish Army in 2019.

Missiles of Piorun are also used in the Poprad and the PSR-A Pilica air-defense systems.
