Romania wants to purchase 18 Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles from Turkey.

Defense Romania reports that the Ministry of Defense insists on parliamentary approval for the decision to purchase drones worth $300 million.

The purchase of three Bayraktar TB2 UAV systems is under consideration. In total, the deal would cover 18 unmanned combat aerial vehicles, that is, six in each separate set.

Drones should arrive with an initial logistics package and special training equipment.

“The purchase of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles is aimed at realizing the capability goals set for Romania within the framework of NATO’s defense planning process. This will contribute to achieving the Program goals with regard to the transformation of the Romanian army by 2040.

This acquisition will expand situational awareness and increase the firepower of the country’s armed forces,” says the accompanying document, which was submitted for parliamentarian consideration.

The value of the purchase contract is $300 million, excluding VAT.

However, the exact value of the deal will be announced after the completion of the procurement procedure.

The Bayraktar TB2 is a Turkish-made medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle. It is made by the Turkish company, Baykar Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.

As previously reported, the Turkish Baykar stated that they will never be selling Bayraktar TB2 drones or technologies from their production to the Russian Federation.

Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar, announced this.

According to him, the amount of a possible financial compensation from Russia is of no importance.
