The armed formations of so-called Transnistria started to equip their T-64BVs with “grills”
The armed forces of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) have started equipping their own T-64BV tanks with anti-drone “grills.”
The Ministry of Defense of Transnistria published the photo of the equipment.
The published photo captures two T-64BV tanks from the tank battalion of the 1st Guards Motorised Infantry Brigade, with their turrets covered with special “grills.”
Given the small tank fleet of the so-called PMR, which includes about 12 active and about 5 reserve combat vehicles, this modernization may be systemic.
The tank battalion is stationed in the village of Vladimirovca, just four kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
It is not clear what prompted the command of the armed formations of the PMR to carry out such modernization, but it can be assumed that it is related to the attacks of unidentified kamikaze drones that took place in the spring.
The first attack took place on March 17, when a kamikaze drone attacked a Mi-8 helicopter on the territory of a military unit of the so-called “Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic” at the Tiraspol airfield.
As a result of the direct hit, the helicopter was completely destroyed. On April 5, a kamikaze drone attacked a military unit in the Rîbnița district of the unrecognized “Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic”.
The target was the only radar in Transnistria, the P-12 Yenisei, which sustained minor damage after the strike.
A crater was created at the crash site, and there were no casualties among the personnel.
Militarnyi previously reported that neighboring Belarus also equipped its T-72Bs with grills.
Prior to that, at least officially, they were demonstrated only once on the modernized T-72BM2 in 2022.
