The US Department of Defense asked its forces stationed in South Korea to provide equipment to help Ukraine in the war with the Russian invaders.

The US military reported this on Thursday, Reuters writes.

It is noted that this transfer would not affect the combat capability of the US Armed Forces (USFK) stationed in Korea.

“The Department of Defense continues to provide military assistance from its inventories in support of Ukraine. United States Forces Korea has been requested to support this effort by providing some of its equipment,” USFK spokesperson Col. Isaac Taylor said in a statement.

According to him, the supply of necessary equipment to Ukraine will not affect the combat capability of American forces stationed on the Korean Peninsula.

“This has zero impact on our operations and our ability to execute on our ironclad commitment to the defense of our ally, the Republic of Korea,” Colonel Taylor stated.

The USFK refused to offer further details about the types of equipment and the amount of weapons or equipment requested or already transferred.

Seoul and Washington are discussing issues related to the inflow or outbound shipment of USFK equipment, Seoul officials said.

This could affect security on the peninsula at a time of tension caused by previous military provocations and threatening rhetoric from North Korea.

This statement of the US military comes after the New York Times previously reported that the United States is transferring ammunition from Israel and South Korea to Ukraine to be used by the Armed Forces in the war against Russia.

The media emphasized that the South Korean government did not wish for the ROK-marked artillery shells to appear in Ukraine, violating the rules for exports of South Korean weapons.

Therefore, a compromise was reached, through which artillery shells from the Korean stores would be shipped to replenish the American military. In addition, the United States will acquire 100,000 new artillery ammunition from South Korea.
