The Russians escaped from the Zmiyinyi Island – OC “South”
Russia’s invasion forces have escaped from the previously captured Ukrainian Zmiyinyi Island in the Black Sea.
The Operational Command “South” reported about this.
According to the servicemen, during the night of June 30, another stage of the military operation was successfully completed by the rocket and artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launching strikes on the Zmiyinyi Island. Upon the strikes, the enemy hastily evacuated the remains of their garrison.
According to the Operational Command “South”, the evacuation of the Russian invaders was executed by the two speedboats.
It is noted that there is a fire on the island, and explosions can be heard.
This is confirmed by the released photo of the island, which shows pillars of smoke rising up from several sources of ignition.
A satellite image of Zmiyinyi Island as of yesterday, June 29, was also released. The photo captured only two locations with the smoke – the pier and the surface of the island.
The final aftermath of the operation is being investigated by Ukrainian forces. The Russian Defense Ministry called the withdrawal of the remnants of its garrison a “gesture of goodwill.”
Previously, Ukraine’s Defense Forces reported that they were continuously destroying the enemy personnel and equipment on Zmiyinyi Island.
The Operational Command “South” reported that on June 27, they recorded over 10 hits at the island targets. The servicemen released a video of the weapons being used on the island:
The footage captured the moments of explosions and equipment catching fire. The remaining buildings on the island were likely on fire as well.
