You Si-kun, the President of the Legislative Yuan stated that the domestic-made Yun Feng supersonic cruise missile is capable of reaching Beijing.

He announced this during his special speech at the Taiwan Overseas Network.

The politician assured that his country has enough defensive weapons, including missiles that could reach targets at the majority of China’s mainland, including Beijing – the capital of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

In his speech, the President urged the Chinese government to think twice before invading Taiwan, reminding that the mostly secret Yun Feng supersonic cruise missile is a capacity that Taiwan will not shy away from.

You Si-kun also emphasized Taiwan’s growing intention to develop a more self-sufficient military industry so that the country could prepare for a potential conflict with China more freely.

Also, the Taiwanese official pointed out that Taiwan is protected by a natural barrier – the Taiwan Strait.

The Armed Forces of the island state their readiness to fight off the Chinese ships with domestic-made Hsiung Feng III anti-ship missiles.

Taiwan started developing the Yun Feng supersonic missile after the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1996, which uncovered after a series of missile tests conducted by the People’s Republic of China. However, this cruise missile was first presented to the public only in 2012.

Yun Feng is a supersonic land-attack cruise missile capable of hitting ground targets at ranges from 1.5 thousand km up to 2 thousand km.

The Yun Feng missile has a solid fuel booster that provides launch and lift-up to the nominal altitude, acceleration to the required speed, and then initiation of a ramjet engine. The missile reaches speed up to 3 Mach (3.7 thousand km per hour) during flight. It is equipped with unknown-type homing systems. The dimensions and starting weight of the Yun Feng missile are unknown.

A 225 kg weight armor-piercing HE warhead is used to strike. The launch of a supersonic missile is executed from a ground launcher. In 2019, NCSIST received a $390 million contract from the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to build 20 Yun Feng missiles and 10 launchers for them.

Yesterday, China’s Leader Xi Jinping signed a directive that allows the “non-war” use of the Chinese army. The decree comes into force on June 15. Such a decision raises concerns that Beijing might be preparing for an invasion of Taiwan under the guise of a “special operation.”
