Representatives of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine handed over to the Rapid Operational Response Unit vehicles and equipment for high accuracy firing of small arms, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported.
The transfer of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles and equipment for high accuracy firing took place, on February 11, as part of the international technical assistance project “Support for the sustainable development of the special purpose unit of the National Police of Ukraine”.
“The transferred equipment and facilities will allow Ukrainian special forces to qualitatively perform their professional duties related to the detection of crimes, combat crime, protect the peace and security of citizens,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
First Deputy Head of National Police Mykhailo Kuznietsov and Senior Law Enforcement Advisor Frank Herbert attended the event.
“We have received telescopic sights, ballistic calculators and specialized vehicles that will be used to combat crime, and tactical night vision goggles,” Mykhailo Kuznietsov said, expressing gratitude to American partners for the fruitful cooperation and constant support of the National Police of Ukraine.
According to Frank Herbert, Senior Law Enforcement Advisor at the Section of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the project has been supported since 2015.
“We are pleased to support the special purpose unit KORD, which conducts the most large-scale, the most difficult police operations in Ukraine to protect the people of Ukraine and to ensure public order,” Frank Herbert said.
Cooperation
Further cooperation in the format of trainings for Ukrainian police officers was also discussed during the transfer of vehicles and equipment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs assured that these trainings will help to increase the level of readiness of Ukrainian special forces to perform service tasks.
Recall that in early February, Ukrainian border guards received SUVs under the project of international technical assistance from the U.S. Government. The first batch of forty new Mitsubishi L200 pickups arrived at the Separate Guard and Support Command of the State Border Service in Kyiv.
