Ukraine will receive 7 Gepard SPAAGs
Berlin plans to transfer to Ukraine additional Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns.
The items are listed on the German government’s website. The list is updated weekly.
This time, 7 Gepard SPAAGs appeared in the planned deliveries.
German journalists wrote about the transfer of these weapons systems the day before. Deutsche Welle was told that Gepard systems could be transferred from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann stock or from Qatar, where they protect World Cup stadiums from possible aerial terror attacks.
Ukraine currently received 30 Gepard SPAAGs from Germany. However, the supply of ammunition for them is limited, since Switzerland, which is an ammunition manufacturer, refused to issue permission to transfer them to Ukraine.
It’s worth noting that Rheinmetall, after acquiring Spanish ammunition manufacturer Expo Systems SA, plans to establish the production of 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns in Spain.
In the list of transferred assistance received from Germany there are also bridge-laying tanks and spare parts for Мі-24 helicopters:
- 3 Biber bridge-laying tanks
- 10 unmanned surface vessels (previously: 2)
- 65 border protection vehicles (previously: 53)
- 14 000 sleeping bags (previously: 10 thousand)
- Mi-24 spare parts
- 30 ambulances
Recall that in the summer 2022, the German government reported plans to transfer 16 Biber Bridge-Laying Tanks to Ukraine. It is an engineering and combat vehicle that carries and deploys a bridge at river crossings, anti-tank ditches and other obstacles.
The vehicle is designed in accordance with the requirements of the Bundeswehr. Development began in 1965, and the first prototypes appeared in 1969. The production of the first serial bridge builders was completed in 1975.
A total of 105 such vehicles were built for the German Army. Also, such equipment is operated by Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and Italy.
