Ukrainian Defense Forces enter Opytne

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have taken up a position in the village of Opytne south of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region.

This was announced on September 10 by the Head of the Avdiivka City Military Administration Vitalii Barabash.

According to him, the Ukrainian military conducted a successful operation.

“From the south, in the Opytne area, we are succeeding. And, in my opinion, it is very substantial. Frankly, the enemy was a little sleepy in this southern direction,” Barabash said.

“Two days ago, they (the Russian military – ed.) conducted powerful activities in the north of the city (Avdiivka – ed.), and at that time, while they were concentrated there, the Ukrainian military carried out a rapid operation and occupied part of Opytne, being able to gain a foothold there,” – said the Head of the CMA.

Now fighting continues in the village itself. Barabash hopes that in the near future the village of Opytne, near Donetsk, will be completely under the control of Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar, on Monday, September 11, confirmed the advance of Ukrainian forces: “There was a movement in the Opytne area, the Defense Forces have taken up a position in this settlement.”

It should be noted that Opytne is located near the Donetsk airport, fierce battles for which lasted from September 2014 to January 23, 2015. The settlement has been under Russian occupation since November last year.

The head of the city military administration said that the situation along the line of defense around Avdiivka remained tense. Russian invaders are pressing the city from the north.

In the morning summary on September 10, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that in the Avdiivka direction the Defense Forces continued to hold the initiative and carry out assaults: “In the Avdiivka, Marinka and Shakhtarsk directions, the Defense Forces continue to hold the initiative: they deter the enemy, conduct assault actions and recapture our land meter by meter. In particular, Ukrainian soldiers repelled about 15 enemy attacks in the Maryinka direction.”

Recently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed a Russian military depot near the village of Myronivskyi in the Donetsk region.

The composition of the invasion army was located on the banks of the Luhanka River, in the area of the Myronivskyi reservoir.
