Ukrainian missiles strike the Russian air bases in Crimea – General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The General Staff of Ukraine confirmed that the Armed Forces launched missile attacks on the Russian air bases in occupied Crimea.

Valerii Zaluzhny, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Mykhailo Zabrodskyi, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, shared this in the “Ukrinform” article.

In this joint message, Valerii Zaluzhny and Mykhailo Zabrodskyi claim that the “real center of gravity of the Russian Federation in this war” lies in its “remote character” with regard to the perception of most Russians.

Through this remoteness, Russian citizens do not perceive the losses, failures, and, most importantly, the cost of this war in all its understanding so painfully:

“A convincing example of the correctness of this approach this year is the successful efforts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to physically transfer hostilities to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. We are talking about a series of successful missile attacks on the enemy’s air bases in Crimea, first of all, on the Saky AB.”

They also discuss that the task of the Ukrainian military for 2023 is to make Russians also in the other occupied territories understand that these feelings (“remoteness of war” – ed.) are sharper, more natural, and quite tangible, despite the considerable distance to the targets.

On August 9, a series of explosions thundered in occupied Crimea at the Saky military airbase in Novofedorivka.

After the explosions, a fire broke out at the air base, which was clearly visible in the satellite images.

Judging by the satellite image, at least 8 or 9 aircraft were destroyed along with premises similar to warehouses.

The vehicles of the Saky airfield personnel were also damaged.

At this base, the Russians mainly housed multi-role Su-30SM fighters, Su-24М/МR aircraft, Il-76 military transport, and other aircraft.

Aircraft that launched missile attacks on Ukraine were taking off from Novofedorivka.
