The Czech Republic plans to supply Ukraine with additional weapons needed to combat Russian aggression.
This was stated by Defense Minister Yana Chernokhova, according to Novinky.cz local media.
According to her, as of the end of May, the Czech government has already provided CZK 3.5 billion (about EUR 140 million) in military aid to Ukraine.
“It is important that the assistance is continuous,” the Defense Minister stressed.
The Czech Republic is preparing new arms supplies to Ukraine.
The Minister said that a new request for additional assistance in the amount of CZK 600-700 million (EUR 24-28 million) is about to be submitted to the Czech government.
Chernokhova also confirmed that the Czech Republic had provided Ukraine with weapons and heavy equipment, including tanks and helicopters.
The Czech Ministry of Defense is also cooperating with the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague to purchase weapons and military equipment with money donated to Ukraine by ordinary citizens. At present, this amount is about CZK 1.2 billion.
It was previously reported that the Czech Republic started supplying Ukraine with defense weapons prior to the beginning of the full-scale aggression.
A special account was also set up at the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague to raise money for arms purchases.
Since the full-scale Russian invasion the Czech Republic has been supplying Ukraine with small arms, rockets, and medical equipment.
According to the media reports, the Czech Republic has also shipped the heavy equipment to Ukraine, including Dana self-propelled howitzers, RM-70 multiple rocket launchers, Soviet-made T-72 tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles.
