Kamikaze drones hit the UMPK (unified gliding and correction module – ed.) bomb kits depot at a military air base in the village of Kushchevskaya, Krasnodar Krai.

It is reported by ASTRA.

The published frames show burned and damaged UMPK kits. The source of the ASTRA publication in local emergency services said that the attack also damaged aircraft, but their number and extent of aircraft damage is still unknown.

As previously reported, in addition to the airfield, drones attacked oil infrastructure and other facilities in the Slaviansk, Seversky and Kushchevsky districts of the Krasnodar Krai.

UMPK

Bombs UMPK kit is one of the main weapons of Russian tactical aviation at the present stage of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

In March, Militarnyi reported that since the beginning of 2024, the combat aviation of the Russian Federation had dropped more than 3,500 bombs on the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. This number is 16x times higher compared to the same period last year.

The UMPK converts a conventional unguided bomb into a precision munition. Also, due to the wings that open after ascending from the hardpoint, the range of the bomb increases to tens of kilometers.

Initially, Russians turned into precision 250- and 500-kilogram bombs. However, today they already equip such modules with FAB-1500 and cluster RBK-500.

Russian bombers and fighters can drop their bombs with the UMPK at a distance of 40-50 km from the front line.

Under such conditions, today the enemy aircraft are almost invulnerable to the Ukrainian Air Defense or fighters. This is a problem that requires a systemic solution.

Such bombs have an inertial system with low accuracy and the programming is carried out during the pre-start preparation.

In-flight orientation can be carried out using GLONASS, GPS or Beidou satellite navigation systems. The accuracy, provided with the visible satellites, does not exceed 8 meters, usually about 15.
