Portugal sent M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine

The Government of Portugal sent M113 tracked armored personnel carriers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Portuguese media Portugal Posts reported that fourteen tracked armored vehicles were sent to Ukraine.

The quantity of transferred armored vehicles of this type represents 10% of Portugal’s M113 vehicles’ active fleet.

Armored vehicles were offered to Ukraine by the Portuguese government as part of plans to help Kyiv in the fight against Russian aggression.

The vehicles recently left the Santa Margarida military camp and are on their way to Poland.

United States-manufactured armored vehicles are transferred by Polish transport companies freight trucks.

Each truck transports two armored vehicles, so the operation involves seven trucks hired by the US government for this specific purpose.

M113 lightweight universal floating conveyor is the main tracked armored personnel carrier, which is in service of mechanized troops of the U.S. Army and other countries.

Armored personnel carriers were in service of the Portuguese army for 30 years. Washington called for transferring this equipment to Ukraine.

In fact, the entire operation is financed by the United States and Great Britain.

Portugal received these weapons after 1989 when the United States reduced its presence in the European Union territory.

Totally 104 units of M113A2 armored personnel carriers from the Netherlands and 50 units of M113A1 from Germany were located in Portugal.
