At the beginning of his speech at the meeting of the command of the Czech armed forces, Karel Řehka, Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army, stated that they should be prepared for a large-scale war in Europe against a strong enemy.

According to him, if a conflict between Russia and NATO began, the Czech army would be an active participant from the first minute.

“A number of weapon systems that are destroying Ukraine today will also reach the territory of the Czech Republic, the situation is serious,” he said.

According to the Head of the General Staff, the Czech army should preserve its anti-terrorist experience, but, first of all, it should prepare for a large-scale war against a strong opponent.

“The war in Europe has become a reality again, and it is taking place on the border of the North Atlantic Alliance. Eternal peace is a utopia. The warning period for this crisis has been going on since at least 2014,” Karel Řehka said.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht made a similar statement about her country in an interview with the Rheinische Post and General-Anzeiger newspapers released on Monday, November 21.

Lambrecht was responding to reporters’ requests for comment on the Bundeswehr’s inspector general’s remarks that Germany should be prepared in case it finds itself embroiled in an imposed war.

“We must be ready to defend Germany and the territory of the alliance,” she said.

The Minister of Defense of Germany emphasized: “Defence has always been a key task of the Bundeswehr. Everyone should realize this again.”

According to Lambrecht, the Bundeswehr will be able to provide Germany’s defense if necessary. At the same time, she expressed confidence that the country will be assisted by partners from the North Atlantic Alliance:

“The Bundeswehr will never have to defend Germany alone, we will always have our allies on our side, and in this alliance, the armed forces will certainly be able to defend Germany,” the Head of the German defense ministry explained.

Also, Edgar Rinkevich, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, mentioned that the NATO countries having common borders with Ukraine need to consider strengthening their air defense in order to secure their own territories.

According to the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident with the missile falling in Poland proves this necessity. At the same time, the Minister emphasized that this happened only because of Russian aggression and terrorist missile attacks on Ukraine.
