The Romanian Ministry of National Defense has awarded Baykar Makina a contract to purchase Bayraktar TB2 drones.

This is stated in recently published contracts.

The value of the deal is $231 million, and it must be approved by the country’s parliament. It assumes the acquisition of three drone systems, which include 18 drones and ground control stations.

Romania’s intention to purchase the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 was first announced in September 2022.

The UAVs should arrive with an initial logistical support package and special training equipment.

At the time, the Ministry of Defense noted that the agreement was being implemented as part of NATO’s defense planning process.

These acquisitions are aimed at contributing to the ambitions laid out as part of the Romanian Military transformation until 2040, which seeks to provide new military equipment and weapon systems to the forces and commands of the Romanian military.

The UAV systems to be purchased will be intended for the Romanian Ground Forces.

Recently, Poland received the second batch of Bayraktar TB2 UAVs.

The delivery set included 6 drones, 3 mobile control posts, and recognition sensors.

At the beginning of February this year, Ukraine decided on the location of the training and testing center for the operation of Bayraktar drones.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the location was selected together with investors and interested parties.

The center will service, repair, and even modernize the equipment. There will also be training for personnel involved in operating Baykar drones.

A road map project to transfer the land plot into use and settle issues on further joint use of the airfield has already been developed.

The government of Ukraine predicts the launch and first production at the Turkish UAV plant in Ukraine in 2025.
