The Russians developed a new seeker for the Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles.

The Russian publication TASS reported on this.

According to the publication, missiles from the Bastion coastal defense missile system received a new active homing head.

It provided better accuracy, less sensitivity to interference, and increased accuracy of ground target acquisition.

The missile was originally developed for anti-ship warfare and is capable of destroying surface targets with a displacement of more than 10,000 tons.

Missiles of this type are installed on surface warships of the Russian Navy and coastal missile systems.

Officially, the publication has no confirmation of these words, but work on improving the P-800 Oniks missiles has been ongoing since 2019.

Back then, it was reported that a new modification of the 3M55M Oniks-M with an increased range of up to 800 km and a new active homing head was being developed.

The P-800 Oniks missile weighing 3 tons is capable of covering a distance of about 300 km at supersonic speed. The warhead consists of 300 kg of explosives.

As a reminder, a new version of the missile known as BrahMos has been developed within the cooperation between India and the Russian Federation.

So far, the Indian Ministry of Defense has approved the purchase of missiles of this type for use from surface combatants.

In total, within this agreement, DRDO will provide the Indian Navy with up to 220 BrahMos supersonic cruise anti-ship missiles.
