The court has sentenced Russian soldier Vadim Shishimarin to life in prison for killing a civilian in the Sumy region

The Solomyanskyi District Court of Kyiv has sentenced a Russian soldier to life in prison. Vadim Shishimarin killed a Ukrainian civilian in the Sumy region.

A sergeant of the Russian Armed Forces was captured two months ago. On February 24, 2022, Shishimarin invaded Ukraine as part of a tank column.

He came under fire several times, got lost, and later surrendered.

In the village of Chupakhivka, Sumy region, he shot dead the 62-year-old Ukrainian Oleksandr Shelipov.

In court, the Russian soldier stated that on February 24, his unit was ordered to enter Ukraine as part of the column. A few days later, on February 28, their column was broken up. After that, the invaders were trying to return to Russia in separate groups.

Shishimarin and four other soldiers took the car from a civilian and were trying to drive toward the border.

It was at this time that Oleksandr Shelipov, a resident of the village of Chupakhivka, was riding his bicycle to the outskirts of the village to take a look at the funnel from the bomb blast.

As the man was passing a car with the Russian military in it, a friend called him.

Shishimarin claims that an unknown serviceman who was with him in the car ordered to shoot a civilian holding a phone because he allegedly transferred their coordinates to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The sergeant executed the order and fired the burst from the machine gun into Shelipov’s head.

After a civilian was murdered, the Russians were slowly driving on, yet were ambushed. Their car was shot by the local unit of the Territorial Defense.

Shishimarin and other Russian soldiers were hiding at the farm and surrendered to the Ukrainians the next morning.

The victim’s widow, Kateryna Shelipova, stated that she would want a life sentence for the Russian soldier and the murderer of her husband, but does not oppose him being exchanged.

“If he will be exchanged for our Mariupol Defenders from Azovstal, I will not object. I will only be in favor of it,” she said.

Previously, Ukrainian paratroopers destroyed the unit of the invader 76th Guards Air Assault Division.
