The Netherlands allocates €120 million military aid to Ukraine
The Netherlands has allocated a new €120 million military aid package to Ukraine. €45 million of these funds is designated for the provision of T-72 tanks to Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands reported about this.
Together with the United States, the Netherlands will provide 90 modernised and reconditioned Czech tanks.
Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kajsa Ollongren informed the parliament about this initiative.
“The Netherlands is again supplying heavy military materiel to Ukraine. The total value of the support package is 120 million euros, of which 45 million is designated for the provision of T-72 tanks,” the statement reads.
It is noted that together with the United States and the Czech Republic, the Netherlands will provide 90 modernised and overhauled Czech tanks. The first batch of tanks is expected to be delivered to Ukraine as early as December.
In a joint statement made by the three defence ministers, they stress how this provision of materiel demonstrates the continued support of the Netherlands, the US, the Czech Republic, and other allies, for Ukraine’s self-defence.
According to Netherlands Defence minister Kajsa Ollongren, this comprehensive package is an important signal to Russia. Allies are continuing to pull together to support the Ukrainian armed forces in their fight against Russia’s war of aggression.
As previously reported, on November 4, the U.S. Department of Defense unveiled the contents of the list of new military aid to Ukraine. $400 million in additional security assistance for Ukraine is allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
From the press release it is shared that the United States and the Netherlands are partnering with the Czech Republic to provide 90 overhauled T-72B main battle tanks to Ukraine.
The US will finance the restoration of 45 units and the Dutch government will finance the restoration of another 45 tanks for a total value of approximately $90 million. These tanks will come from the inventory of the Czech defence industry.
As previously reported, the Netherlands is preparing the sixth aid package under the European Peace Fund for Ukraine. This includes €500 million to be allocated.
