The U.S. Senate has approved a nearly $40 billion aid package for Ukraine.

The Voice of America reports about this.

The Senate vote took place on Thursday, May 19. Senators from both parties supported the bill.

The aid package was approved by 86 votes in favor, with 11 senators voting against.

The bill will go to the White House for immediate signing by U.S. President Joe Biden.

Previously, the bill was supported by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The bill provides nearly $20 billion for the Pentagon – three billion more than originally requested by the White House.

The new aid package commits $6 billion in weapons for Ukraine, including training, equipment, and support, and over $8 billion to replenish US military supplies, which have declined due to arms being supplied to Ukraine.

Nearly $4 billion in funding will be allocated to strengthen the U.S. forces in the European region.

Over $8 billion will be assigned to the economic support of Ukraine and related issues.

The aid package also includes $5 billion in humanitarian aid to address food security around the world caused by the conflict.

It is providing hundreds of millions of dollars to help refugees and fund efforts to “seize the assets of oligarchs linked to the Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
