Tornado-U trophy armored vehicle restored for Kraken Regiment

The Ukrainian Kraken special unit was armed with a captured Russian Tornado-U armored vehicle.

The Ukrainian serviceman, known on social media as “Zapysky mazuty” (“Fuel Oil Notes” – ed.), demonstrated a restored vehicle in Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian military captured the Ural-63706-0010 Tornado-U in the fall of 2022 in the Kharkiv region.

The Russian invaders left the armored truck near the city of Balakliya.

Tornado-U was first presented at the Army-2015 international military and technical forum.

The vehicle with a 6×6 wheel arrangement is based on the Ural-6370 platform.

Its main difference from the base model is the frame-panel cab.

The load capacity of Tornado-U reaches 16 tons, and the total weight is 30 tons. The vehicle is equipped with a 440 hp engine, which allows it to reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

Tornado-U will enable Kraken special forces operators to more reliably transport supplies to the positions.

The KRAKEN special forces unit is mainly involved in hostilities against Russian troops in the Kharkiv region.

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, individuals associated with the Azov Regiment started creating volunteer units. The KRAKEN special unit is one of these military formations.

In June 2022, the Ukrainian special unit was armed with Alvis 4 armored vehicles. This type of armored vehicle was at one time involved in peacekeeping operations in South Africa and Kosovo.
