Ukroboronprom develops 155mm shells production

Ukroboronprom state group is working on the development of an artillery 155mm projectile.

This was reported by the spokeswoman of the Ukroboronprom, Nataliya Sad, during a briefing on “Production of weapons and equipment for the needs of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.”

Ukroboronprom has already mastered the production of 82mm mortar rounds, 122mm and 152mm artillery shells, as well as 125mm tank rounds.

The development of NATO’s 155mm-caliber shells continues.

“We are working to learn how to make this ammunition, because it is no secret that the army is saturated with artillery systems of this caliber. Therefore, it is a prospect for us to master its production,” the group’s spokeswoman said.

Nataliya Sad added that today the enterprises of the group, together with partners, are able to reach a level of production of several tens of thousands of shells per month of different calibers.

And every month, the production capabilities of the Ukroboronprom are growing.

The concern has not yet been announced which countries have agreed to help Ukraine with the production of these shells.

The German Rheinmetal, with which Ukroboronprom deepens cooperation, may help with the development of 155mm shell production.

Rheinmetall is planning to receive a significant share of contracts from the EU for the production of shells for Ukraine. Recently, Rheinmetall announced the possibility of producing up to 600-700 thousand shells for Ukraine.

It is also not exclusively the case that Polish defense enterprises, which also produce 155mm shells, will help with this caliber of Ukroboronprom.

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa already has significant capabilities in the production of ammunition of various types and calibers, ranging from small and medium caliber ammunition to 155mm and 120mm ammunition.
