US accelerates delivery of weapons to Ukraine – Pentagon
The United States is moving as quickly as possible to deliver weapons and military equipment to Ukraine.
The Pentagon announced this.
The most attention is pointed at HIMARS coming with the latest package of defense assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Pentagon message mentions that Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Ukrainian Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov met to discuss the outcomes of the recent Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, the Ramstein-4.
They also discussed ongoing security assistance to Ukraine and recent U.S. commitment of additional High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
Secretary Austin reassured Minister Reznikov that “the United States is moving as quickly as possible to deliver equipment to Ukraine.”
Counting the new package, Ukraine will have 16 American HIMARS systems in total.
The United States also committed to sending more MLRS ammunition, precision-guided artillery ammunition, tactical vehicles, and other necessary support.
In addition, Ukraine has already received a certain number of similar systems – M270 MLRS.
The Pentagon has published a list of items included in another package of security assistance to Ukraine. Ukraine will receive four command post vehicles, probably for the M142 HIMARS rocket system.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine will also receive anti-tank weapons (most likely Javelin) and grenade launchers.
The United States will transfer spare parts and other gear, and 36,000 rounds of 105 mm ammunition. Ukrainian artillerymen use 105-mm ammunition for L119 towed howitzers.
