The US President’s administration in late December secretly allocated $200 million in additional security assistance to Ukraine, CNN writes, according to four people familiar with the matter.

“In late December, the Biden administration quietly authorized to provide Ukraine with an additional $200 million for security”, the publication said.

The new aid package included the same defense weapons that the United States had provided to Ukraine before, including lethal weapons. In particular, we are talking about small arms and ammunition, secure radios, medical equipment, spare parts and other equipment.

The publication notes that the administration of the President of the United States in early January informed Congress of the approval of the new aid to Ukraine, which had to be carried out according to the procedure. Moreover, this was done unspokenly.

The US State Department said that assistance to Ukraine will continue, but refused to discuss specific details.

“I’m not going to get into every tranche and update of security assistance. The point is: we have given more security assistance to Ukraine in the last year than at any point since 2014. Those deliveries are ongoing, as recently as in the last few weeks, and there are more scheduled in the coming weeks”, a State Department spokesperson said.

Assistance

In December, President of the United States Joe Biden approved an increase in security assistance to Ukraine to $300 million. He signed the Defense Budget Act passed by the US Congress for 2022.

The law provides for the allocation of security assistance to Ukraine for 300 million dollars (50 million more than in proposals for 2021). 75 million dollars is supposed for a lethal weapon.
