The United States plans to appoint a general to lead the training and assistance effort and to name its military mission supporting Ukraine.

The Wall Street Journal reported this with reference to US officials.

In the coming weeks, US President Joe Biden’s administration plans to implement such a decision.

The naming of the mission is significant bureaucratically.

The naming of the operation formally recognizes the US effort within the military, akin to how the Pentagon dubbed the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

After the implementation of such a decision, the USA will be able to allocate long-term dedicated funding to Ukraine.

It will also provide an opportunity to set pay and bonuses for servicemen participating in training and military support missions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The American publication notes that the appointment of a general responsible for the military mission in Ukraine will mean the formation of a management structure to coordinate efforts to support the Ukrainian servicemen, which is designed for many years.

The US Defense Ministry believes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will make a gradual transition to NATO-standard equipment in the coming years.

On August 24, US President Joe Biden congratulated Ukrainians on Ukraine’s Independence Day and announced a tranche of assistance worth $2.98 billion.

These funds will be spent on air defense systems, artillery systems and ammunition, unmanned aircraft systems, and radars.

The United States is focused on increasing the supply of GMLRS guided rockets with a range of up to 84 kilometers.
