More than 13,000 people signed up for voluntary military service in the Polish army.

Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak spoke about this on TVP Info.

The minister also admitted that in the coming weeks he expects an increase in citizens’ interest in this form of service in the country’s armed forces.

“We hope that there will be more applications in September, October and November. This year we have prepared 15,000 places. If necessary, we will find more. We want as many people as possible to be trained, to be able to handle weapons, to be well organized,” Mariusz Błaszczak said.

The law “On Defense of the Fatherland” which was adopted last spring, introduces a new type of military service, namely a voluntary military service.

Anyone who has not been in the army before, can undergo it. Thus, you can undergo military training and replenish the reserve or join the professional army in the future.

According to the rules established for this type of service, the candidate begins volunteer service with a 28-day introductory training course.

Then he familiarizes himself with the rules of drill and the military statute and learns the basics of weapon ownership. This period will end with taking an oath and receiving an army book.

Military personnel who decide not to continue training will be enrolled in the reserve. Others will receive up to 11 months of professional training, which is combined with the fulfillment of professional duties.

At the end of this term, a serviceman of a voluntary military service can submit an application for service in the professional, territorial or active reserve.

Within the scope of volunteer service, the volunteer will receive remuneration in the amount of the minimum official salary of a professional military serviceman. Now it is 4,560 zlotys.

As previously reported, the Polish government plans to strengthen the capabilities of the Armed forces and invest 524 billion zlotys (almost €110 billion) in the modernization of the army.
