Poland has signed a memorandum with the Javelin Joint Venture to jointly produce FGM-148 Javelin ATGMs.

Defence 24 reported on this.

At the MSPO International Defence Industry Exhibition, the state-owned PGZ signed a memorandum with the Javelin Joint Venture (a combination of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin) to produce Javelin anti-tank weapon systems in Poland.

“Together with PGZ, we are exploring a number of opportunities to leverage the resident skills and expertise of Polish industry for Javelin co-production,” Andy Amaro, the president of the JJV and RTX’s Javelin program director, shared.

PGZ stated that the team-up with U.S. industry players will allow the partners “to evaluate the possibility of setting up a final assembly plant and producing components in Poland.”

It is reported that JJV representatives have also submitted an offer to the Polish group to have parts of Javelin weapons produced at PGZ’s subsidiary Mesko.

Przemysław Kowalczuk, Mesko’s Member of the Management Board for Development, said that his company will be the main contractor for the missile system production. A number of other Polish companies, such as Polish Armaments Group, will act as subcontractors.

According to Kowalczuk, the company expects to fully localize production in Poland within a few years.

Placing additional production sites in Poland could be part of the Lockheed Martin capacity expansion, which has been trying to increase Javelin production since May last year.

In April 2023, the United States allocated over $200 million to accelerate the production of Javelin ATGMs.

The Polish Armed Forces already have FGM-148 Javelin systems in service. In 2020, the country signed a contract to supply 60 launchers and 180 guided missiles.

In addition to the Javelin, the Polish military is arming itself with a similar Spike-LR2 ATGM, which has already been produced in Poland.
