The newest Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle was tested on water

The key stage of state qualification tests of the new Borsuk tracked infantry fighting vehicle is underway in Poland.

The newest infantry fighting vehicle is being tested at one of the country’s training grounds.

The new Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle is undergoing the most important tests on land and water.

Borsuk is the result of 10 years of the engineering work of Huta Stalowa Wola and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa in cooperation with the Armaments Agency, the National Research and Development Center, and the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Engineering.

Almost 100 specialists are supervising the tests. The new combat vehicle will replace the old Soviet BMP-1s, which have been the main infantry fighting vehicle of the Polish army for many decades and are now morally and technically obsolete.

If the Borsuk successfully passes the state qualification tests, the Polish army is likely to receive over 1,000 such infantry fighting vehicles and vehicles on its chassis.

One of the main elements of testing is checking the ability of a combat vehicle to overcome water obstacles on its own, that is, without prior preparation and the use of special engineering equipment.

Firing with the main weapon is also an integral part of this test.

In February 2023, Poland ordered 1,400 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles for its troops.

The contract to produce and supply the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle was signed between the Polish Armaments Agency and a consortium of companies Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Huta Stalowa Wola.

The Polish Borsuk IFV received a classic layout for modern IFVs with the front location of the engine-transmission compartment and the control compartment, behind which the combat compartment with the commander and gunner is located.

The IFV is equipped with a remotely controlled ZSSW-30 combat module armed with a Bushmaster Mk 44/S 30mm gun and 200 rounds of ammunition, a 7.62mm UKM-2000C machine gun and 400 rounds, as well as a dual launcher of Spike-LR anti-tank missiles (ATGM). The design of the module is adapted for the installation of additional hinged armor.

The infantry fighting vehicle weighs 28 tons and develops a maximum speed on paved roads of up to 65 km/h. The vehicle received a German MTU 8V-199-TE20 diesel engine with a capacity of 720 horsepower.

In 2020, the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa announced the first stage of field tests of the promising Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle.

In July 2022, state tests of the new Polish floating infantry fighting vehicle, created under the Borsuk program, began. This was an important step on the way to adopting this vehicle.

And in the autumn of the same year, servicemen of the 15th Mechanized Brigade of the Polish army tested the vehicle on the training ground.
